The picture of an egg, shot simplistically was posted on 4th of january by an anonymous UK based account named @world_record_egg which currently has 8.4 million followers. According to various reports, it is said that the picture was shot by photographer, Sergey Platonov.
After the world’s being dying to find out the person behind this UK based account, it is now clear that the brain behind this post going viral is that of a 19-year-old Indian origin brand marketing strategist, Ishan Goel.
Ishan Goel, a Massachusetts born marketing guru at just the age of 19, played a huge role in helping the photo break the internet in a matter of few days.
According to DailyMail, Ishan in an interview with FEMAIL said, “I won’t go into too many specifics about the secret sauce, but I can say that I worked to garner attention for the page on Reddit, reached out to media really early on, and told all of the celebrities and influencers in my network to help push it.”
“I would like to give all credit to the chicken who laid this egg. They were the spark. I was the gasoline,” he added.
According to Ishan, the reason behind this post going viral was that, it was not the face of a celebrity or a person, it was just an egg representing something much bigger. Also, it was comical.
“People can [rally] around the thrill of outdoing a celebrity. It makes the world seem less intimidating, more light-hearted, and more accessible,” he said.
Although he didn’t reveal the true identity of the person behind the egg account, he did share a few secrets on how you can make your posts go viral. He said that it all depends on timing, placement and influence.
His thoughts in the interview were symbolic to the fact that there is often no rhyme or reason to the things that go viral but what comes from it is all that matters.
This incident serves as a clear-cut example of the immense power that the social media possesses and at the same time it also makes us understand that its not just celebrities that make a difference or use a platform to their advantage, social media can do wonders to common people too.
